What is it?

Human resources specialists are responsible for recruiting, screening, interviewing and placing workers. Bascially they plan, direct and coordinate the administrative functions of an organization and oversee specialists in their duties; consult with executives on strategic planning, and link a company’s management with its employees.

 

HR specialists tend to focus on a single area, such as recruiting or training. HR generalists handle a number of areas and tasks simultaneously.

 

Some typical daily tasks for an HR worker include:

  • Consult with employers to identify needs and preferred qualifications

  • Interview applicants about their experience, education and skills

  • Contact references and perform background checks

  • Inform applicants about job details such as benefits and conditions

  • Conduct new employee orientations

  • Communication:. Often, people in human resources have to conduct interviews, give presentations, and lead meditations. All of these take strong communication skills.

 

  • Conflict Management: Employees in human resources help solve a variety of work conflicts, whether they are between two colleagues or an employee and his or her employer. HR staff needs skills in negotiation and mediation.

 

  • Decision Making & Organisation: HR employees make lots of decisions for a company, ranging from whom to hire to how to resolve a dispute between employees. Thus,they are critical thinkers who can weigh the pros and cons of an event and then make a decision. They also have to keep track of numerous records and files related to each employee.

From 2006- 2016, this field has grown by 11%. As of 2018, the starting salary in this field varies from INR Rs 2.4- 14.5 Lacs PA.
