What is it?

 

Data analytics is the science of drawing insights from raw information sources and encompasses many diverse types of data analysis. Essentially any type of information can be subjected to data analytics techniques to get insight that can be used to improve things.

 

Gaming companies use data analytics to set rewards schedules for players that keep the majority of players active in the game. Content companies use many of the same data analytics to keep you clicking, watching, or re-organizing content to get another view or another click.

 

Data analytics techniques can reveal trends and metrics that would otherwise be lost in the mass of information. This information can then be used to optimize processes to increase the overall efficiency of a business or system.

 

Skills Required for the Profile:

 

  • Analytical Skills: These skills refer to the ability to gather, view and analyze all forms of information in details. They also mean the ability to view a challenge or situation from different perspectives.

 

  • Numeracy Skills: These skills refer to the ability to interpret mathematical information, understand the relationship between numbers, study graphs etc

 

  • Technical and Computer Skills: These include scripting language (Matlab, Python), Querying Language (SQL, Hive, Pig), Spreadsheet (Excel) and Statistical Language (SAS, R, SPSS). Other computer skills include; programming (Javascript, XML), big data tools (Spark, Hive HQL) and so on.

 

Job Role and Responsibilities:

  • You would identify areas where your company needs to improve in efficiency and process automation

  • You would initiate and maintain processes of automated data

  • You would identify, evaluate and implement services and tools from external sources to support validation of data and cleansing.

  • You would Create dashboards, graphs and visualizations on data.

  • You would prepare reports for both internal and external audiences using various business analytics reporting tools.
